Its the holidays, but where did the recession go?

With all the talk in recent months of a recession, I was struck by how many people were at the department store today.  Granted, this is a time of year when commercialism is usually at its peak.  But with all of the recent financial hardship and economic downturns, I didn’t expect to see a crowd.  I had wondered if people would take this time to cut back on the gifts and really focus more on spending time with loved ones.

But commercialism will live on it appears.  The crowds were thriving and I could really not make any distinction to any other year.  It appears that even in the face of hardship, people will make an effort to celebrate the holidays in the same fashion they always have.  Hopefully this could be a bit of a boost for the rest of the economy, but only time will tell.

The Price of Gas Is Down , But For How Long

So gas prices are at levels where a fill up doesn’t require heart medication and personal loans. So how long do you think that is going to last? Not long the Arabs will shut down some wells and the price will creep back up. So what is the solution?

Well iIve been thinking , what if we send some folks and tell them we are playing by the same rules they play with. Just guys , look we need oil and by the looks of your farm land you are going to need some food. You cant grow anything out here. So her is the deal , we are raising the price of a bushel of corn to 300.00. How does that feel Shiek Crude Pumper? or we can trade straight up

The Dangers Of Communicating

One thing that is certain is, men and women have very different ideas on communicating.  But who knew the misunderstandings could be amusing?  I was recently having a conversation with a man and discovered this fact.  The nature of our discussion is not that important.  I said something to the effect of, “If you wanted to change that then I’m sure you could make it better”, which he took as “You didn’t do it right, you suck!”

That left me scratching my head and wondering if I had been speaking English.  That wasn’t what I said.  Ladies, don’t think we aren’t guilty as well.  Just later on that day he said that a plan I had was a “very unfulfilling goal.”  Which I took to mean, “Wow, what a loser.”  Again, not what he had intended and not even remotely close to what was actually said.  What happened to taking someone at his or her word?

If I didn’t know any better I’d say we were not even speaking the same version of English at the other.  I suppose I need to brush up on my translating skills, just to be on the safe side.

Oh Those Pesky Travel Sites

Yesterday I was purchasing a plane ticket, round-trip to the UK.  Easy, right?  Oh, so wrong.  My first instinct was to go to a travel website that promises low prices on all your travel needs.  I opened up three different sites.  Price shopping never hurts.
The first site had a great price and I thought, well that’s awesome I’ll go with that.  Imagine my surprise when not two minutes later as I was trying to buy it suddenly my price was double!  Turns out they were hiding the fees and taxes to make the price appear lower.  Conspiracies anyone?  I think they have one going on there.

Second site the price was a little higher but they assured me that all taxes and fees were included.  But lo and behold I was not out of the woods yet.  They don’t accept my type of credit card.

Now on to number site three. The price was decent, but not as good as the other two.  They accept my credit card and at that point that was all I wanted. The times and departures are bad, but beggars can’t be choosers.  Those sites are pesky, annoying creations.

My New Cockatiel Albert

I always wanted to own a cockatiel, at least ever since my friend brought one home two years ago. When I saw this little bird with its spiky head feathers I was sold. Yesterday the moment arrived when I finally made it down to the local pet store. I was so excited and couldn’t wait to pick a bird.

The owner had previously alerted me to new arrivals so I was ready to roll as soon as the birds were delivered to the pet shop. On my arrival I was greeted by four of the cutest little fluffy things I have ever seen. Four baby cockatiels in fact and they all looked admirable. So much so that I wanted to take them home – all of them.

But since my space is limited I had to make a choice and eventually settled on a little grey colored one with yellow bits and white bits sprinkled throughout its feathers. Since the store owner thinks it is a male bird (god knows how he does), I decided to name the bird Albert.

I was then instructed on the right cockatiel diet and good to go after that. As soon as we got home, Albert and I spend some time bonding with each other. I’m sure we will continue to grow close and I look forward to our life together

Sarah Palin, Came, Saw and Kicked Ass

It seems Sarah Palin is going to take all the crap people have been giving her without dishing some out herself. I say good for her . She delivered a kick ass speech to the GOP Convention and Barrack Obama may indeed be in for a fight. Why is it every time an attractive woman gets in the limelight , they start assaulting her character. I’m a Sarah Palin fan already and Im glad she stood up for herself . I hope she keeps on doing it too .

My First Blog Post and Its Supposed To Be Fun

This is my first blog and my first blog post. My boyfriend set this blog up for me and said, “have some fun with it” . So I was thinking, and thinking and thinking, what should I write about and he suggested, whatever I feel like. So with that being said, I am a 40 something woman with two kids, a 15 year old son , and a 4 year old daughter. My son is smart , very smart and wants to be a doctor. My little sweetie is smart and has an attitude sometimes. She already thinks she is all that. I’ve been married twice and divorced twice and I think I have had enough of that. I have a wonderful man in my life who is very driven to succeed and actually takes the time to talk to me. That is something I have never had in my life.

I decided on a theme for this blog , mostly because I liked the young girl in the picture and remember when my body resembled that silhouette . It was titled a travel blog, which I dearly love and don’t get to do enough.

I hope to use my blog as sort of a journal of the days ahead. I’m told I’m very opinionated and strong willed so every now and then I may let off a little steam .

So there you go that’s me and I hope to write more very soon
